The L9963E-TR is a multi-cell lithium battery monitoring and balancing IC designed for automotive battery management systems (BMS). It can monitor up to 14 series-connected lithium cells and integrates passive cell balancing circuitry for automotive and industrial high-voltage BMS systems.
Core Functions
  • High-Precision Cell Voltage Measurement: Each cell channel features built-in ADC with high measuring accuracy, supporting real-time sampling of individual cell voltages and detecting under-voltage and over-voltage conditions.
  • Integrated Passive Cell Balancing: Each cell channel includes an independent discharge switch for passive balancing. Discharges high-voltage cells to equalize voltage across all series cells, maximizing battery pack usable capacity. Balancing current can be configured externally via resistors.
  • Comprehensive Battery Temperature Monitoring: Supports multiple external NTC thermistor inputs to measure battery module temperature. Implements thermal protection by triggering alarms during over-temperature or under-temperature conditions.
  • Robust Communication Interface: Utilizes isolated SPI communication to transmit cell voltage, temperature, and fault data to the main MCU. The isolated bus effectively resists high voltage interference within the battery pack and improves system electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Complete Internal Fault Diagnosis: Built-in self-test function checks ADC, communication, and balancing circuits. Monitors open wire faults of cell sensing lines, chip over-temperature, and reports all abnormal states to the host controller.
  • Wide Operating Voltage and High Voltage Tolerance: Suitable for high-voltage lithium battery packs in passenger vehicles, withstands high common-mode voltage from series battery stacks, and operates across a wide temperature range for harsh automotive environments.
