Introduction
DS28E18Q+T - 1-Wire® to I²C/SPI Bridge
The DS28E18Q+T is a 1-Wire® to I²C/SPI bridge featuring an integrated 512-byte command sequencer, designed by Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated).
Core Functions
- 1-Wire to I²C/SPI Protocol Conversion: Translates commands and data between the host's single-contact 1-Wire bus and peripheral's I²C or SPI interface. Reduces wiring complexity by converting 6-wire SPI or 4-wire I²C buses to just 2 wires (signal + ground).
- Power Over 1-Wire: Derives power for itself and attached peripherals directly from the 1-Wire bus, eliminating the need for separate power supplies at remote nodes.
- 512-byte Command Sequencer: On-chip SRAM sequencer can be pre-loaded with I²C/SPI command sequences. Once initiated, the device autonomously executes sequences, collects response data, and stores it for later retrieval via the 1-Wire bus.
- Long-Range Communication: Supports 1-Wire network distances up to 100 meters, enabling reliable control of remote sensors.
- Unique 64-Bit ROM ID: Each chip features a unique serial number, allowing multiple devices to coexist on the same 1-Wire bus with individual addressing.
-
Flexible Speed Support:
- I²C: Standard (100kHz), Fast (400kHz), and Fast-mode Plus (1MHz)
- SPI: Clock rates up to 2.3 MHz
Typical Applications
- Remote Environmental Monitoring: Controlling temperature, humidity, or pressure sensors in inaccessible locations
- Accessory Identification & Control: Identifying and configuring plug-in modules or accessories
- Industrial Equipment Monitoring: Supervising remote sensors in factory automation, HVAC, or grain elevator systems
- Cable Reduction: Simplifying wiring in systems where long, multi-wire cables are impractical or costly
- Battery-Powered Devices: Minimizing power consumption and wiring in portable or battery-operated equipment
